What to Wear and Bring

Clothing is pretty much a personal decision, but it's a fair bet that you'll bring more than you really need. Remember, there are washing machines where we're going ... and Woolite works wonders on socks and underwear. The list below was compiled from the Travelsmith website, with a few additions from other cognoscenti.

Hats - A hat is a good idea for sun protection when it's warm and for warmth when it's cold.

Rainwear - Good rainwear is always recommended for Northern Europe, where it can rain at anytime of the year. (Stowable ponchos are a good choice).

Sweaters - One or two sweaters are essential for warmer layering.

Short-Sleeve Shirts - Two to three short-sleeve shirts.

Pants - Two to three pairs of walking pants should be all that you need.

Shorts - Two or three pairs of shorts when pants no longer fit the occasion.

Skirts and Dresses - With excellent circulation, skirts and dresses are very cooling for outdoor adventures. Especially recommended for cultural areas, where pants and shorts are not appropriate.

Underlayers - Two to six sets depending on how often you plan on washing.

Suit - You'll need one suit for presentations.

Ties - Two ties constitute a varied wardrobe for guys.

Long-sleeve Shirts - Two or three in different colors (can be worn with suits, or for layering).

Shoes - Should be comfortable ... we'll be doing a LOT of walking.

Other Essentials - Don't forget!

Swiss Army Knife
